Miss Ainsworth

Welcome to Reception!

A very warm welcome to all our Early Years parents and carers. We are excited to begin this special journey with you and your child/children. Our aim is to create a happy, nurturing and welcoming environment where every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn.

We look forward to working closely with you, celebrating your child’s achievements and sharing the wonderful learning and experiences they will have throughout their time in EYFS: Little Saints & Reception.

Our Learning

Below you can find our EYFS curriculum, which follows the Cornerstones curriculum, bringing together both the main projects and companion projects to provide a broad range of engaging experiences that support children as they learn, develop and thrive throughout their Early Years journey.

Magic Moments

Please send in ‘Magic Moments’ to help celebrate your child’s achievements.  This is a fantastic way to share special moments with the class and contribute to your child’s learning journey.  You can find the ‘Magic Moments’ sheet to print in the Magic Moments tab of our page.

Drinks and Snack

Children are welcome to bring in a healthy snack, such as fruit, to enjoy during morning play, or toast can be ordered in school as an alternative. Children in the Infants also receive a snack in the afternoon through the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. Please ensure your child brings a labelled water bottle to school each day, filled with water

If you would like your child to have milk at school, please follow the link to register and order this for them.

Milk is free for children under the age of 5.

Please Note:

We are a nut-free and kiwi-free school. Please ensure your child does not bring in any products containing nuts or kiwi fruit.

Home Learning

This half term, your child/children will begin to bring home a Home Learning sheet each weekend. This will give you a little glimpse into what we have been learning and exploring in school during the week, along with some simple activities for you to enjoy together at home.

Activities may include mark making, going on a walk, talking about what you can see, or retelling a familiar story. These experiences provide opportunities for children to practise and build on the skills they are developing in school, while learning through play, exploration and everyday experiences.

For our Reception children, the sheet may also include the initial graphemes we have been learning through our Red Rose Letters & Sounds Phonics Scheme, giving you the opportunity to practise these together at home. Our Nursery children will have activities suited to their stage of development, supporting their communication,

We hope you enjoy sharing these little learning moments together at home and seeing your child’s confidence grow.

Reading

This half term, Reception children will begin bringing home a reading book bag containing a reading book matched to the sounds and letters they are learning through our Red Rose Letters & Sounds Phonics Scheme. Sharing these books regularly at home will help your child practise their developing phonics skills and build confidence as a reader.

For our Nursery children, we encourage families to enjoy nursery rhymes and songs together at home. Sharing rhymes is a lovely way to develop children’s language, listening and communication skills, while having fun together.

We look forward to sharing your child’s Early Years journey with books, rhymes and stories, watching their confidence, language and love of reading grow along the way.

Communication

Each week, ‘Our Early Years Journey’ will be shared with you via email, giving you a little glimpse into what we have been learning, exploring and enjoying in our nurturing Early Years environment. It is a lovely way to see some of the special moments from our week and how these experiences support your child’s learning and development across all areas of the Early Years curriculum.

Our Open Door will take place every Thursday from 3:20pm. This is an opportunity to pop into the classroom, have a chat with me, look at your child's learning journey and see what we have been getting up to in the classroom – all without an appointment.

If you need to speak to me, please feel free to catch me at the beginning or end of the school day, or contact the school office.

Please contact me on [email protected]

I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the year!
